WordPress Dashicons Guide and Cheat Sheet

Here's a quick reference to WordPress Dashicons font icon. This font set was designed for the dashboard UI but can also be used in the front end. If you're a fan of Glyphicons or Fontawesome, you'll enjoy these as well.

WordPress Dashicons are font icons in the WordPress dashboard and the WordPress admin area. These icons are vector-based, which means they scale perfectly without losing quality and can be easily customized using CSS. Dashicons serve various purposes, such as indicating different types of content, providing visual cues for actions, and enhancing the overall user experience in the WordPress interface.

How to Use Wordpress Dashicons

Dashicons are easy to use, here are simple instructions and examples on how to use dash icons. If you've used FontAwesome the syntax and usage are exactly the same.

xml
<span class="dashicons dashicons-search"></span>
css
span.myicon {font-family: "dashicons"; content: "f179";}

To use in your WordPress themes you can add the following code snippet to your functions.php to include the CSS and fonts automatically.

php
wp_enqueue_style('dashicons-style', get_stylesheet_uri(), array('dashicons'), '1.0');
