Adobe Photoshop is the to-go choice for the professional designer, photographer and illustrator, unfortunately, the cost means that it is out of reach for many amateurs and beginners. We look at a few free alternatives to Photoshop and see how they compare.

However, unlike the GIMP, Seashore aims to serve the basic image editing needs of most computer users, not to provide a replacement for professional image editing products. Also, unlike GIMP, Seashore has an all-new Cocoa UI that will fit right in on Mac OS X.

Adobe Photoshop Express contains the most basic of Photoshop features, free of charge. You can use Photoshop Express in your browser or download the app for Windows 10, Android, iOS or Windows Phone. The app lets you crop, rotate and resize pictures, adjust the usual variables like brightness and contrast, and remove red-eye. There's also a useful Touchup tool that lets you correct minor blemishes in your pictures. Common enhancements are included but limited to selected brush sizes. Also included is a limited set of filters and plugins.
